At the Guggenheim:  (http://www.guggenheim.org/new-york). Through January 13.  Kandinsky.  Kandinsky is a central figure in the history of the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum. His works not only represent a part of the core and essence of the collection, but also helped to inspire the creation of the building. In 1929, Solomon R. Guggenheim began collecting Kandinsky’s canvases.  $18. 

3rd Annual Grand Central Holiday Train Show:  Now - January 16, 2010.  On a two-level 34-foot long layout, Lionel trains travel through a miniature Manhattan to the North Pole. A new Long Island Rail Road train joins Metro-North, New York Central, and Pennsylvania Railroad cars on the elevated track, while New York City Transit's R-27 subway cars run below. Vintage Lionel trains from the Museum's collection are also on view.  New York Transit Museum Gallery Annex and Store at Grand Central Terminal.  Through January 18.  Mon – Fri: 8am - 8pm, Sat – Sun: 10am - 6pm.  (212) 878-0106.  FREE.  

At the Frick:  (www.frick.org/index.htm).  Through January 17.  Exuberant Grotesques: Renaissance Maiolica from the Fontana Workshop. 1 East 70th St (@ Fifth Ave). 212-288-0700. Tue - Sat 10am to 6pm, Sun 11am to 5pm. $18. 

The Pond at Bryant Park:  (www.bryantpark.org/amenities/thepond.php).  Open through January 24, 2010. The Pond is the centerpiece of Bryant Park's winter season, which also includes the annual Holiday Shops at Bryant Park. The 170' x 100' rink features free admission ice skating, in addition to high quality rental skates, skating shows, special events, and activities. Check out Celcius: A Canadian Lounge.  This outdoor lounge overlooks The Pond with rinkside views.  It offers lunch, dinner, and drinks and has an outdoor terrace complete with heat lamps.  Rink's Hours: 2pm - 12mdt. FREE.

At New York Historical Society:  Now through March 25, 2010.   Lincoln and New York.  New York Historical Society, 170 Central park West @ 77th St.  $12 adults, $9 seniors and FREE for children under 12.

ICE SKATING RINK INFORMATION: 

Bryant Park Rink:  Dates: November 6, 2009-January 24, 2010.  Hours: 8am-10pm, (till midnight on Fridays and Saturdays).  Cost: Free entrance, skate rental $12

Chelsea Piers:  Dates: Year-round.  Hours: Varies by day, but generally afternoons.  Cost: Adults $13, Kids $10.50, Skate Rental $4
